Whuggers

Congratulations to (dumber) Hogville for finally bringing down their target. Houston Nutt is laughing all the way to the bank. Not that we mind that he's gone, and $3.5 mil seems adequate compensation for character assassination.

But we knew it was just a matter of time before the haters set their sights on someone else.

It must suck to be Houston Nutt
Posted by MysticHog
The man has to go on TV and lie about his support. He has to attack his own fan base and case more people to dislike him in order to try and get money he does not deserve. No school wants to hire him because the word is out that is devoid of any substance or morals. His wife is a two bit ho bag who has nothing better to do than to attack players that her husband doesn't like. The jerk off can't even go anywhere in Fayetteville with out someone making comments of what a arse he is as he walks by. It must suck to be this man.

Black shirts at news conference
Posted by arcowboy
Now , at the news conference this afternoon did you notice Nutt had on a black tee shirt or sweater, this is the first time this yr he has not wore a suit to the news conference. Just suppose maybe he is packing?

Posted by Hog-fan-in-mizzou
I noticed the black shirt HDN was wearing, He usually wears a white shirt and red tie. You think he is sending a message...black goes with Baylor, maybe "Black Shirt' defense at Nebraska? Who knows, does seem weird.

Smarter Hogville analysis: Reggie Herring has started wearing a gray sweatshirt on the sidelines instead of a white polo. Do you think it could be a coded message, that he's moving toward the "dark side"? See, even his own coaches are turning against him!

We think these two posts represent a new low for (dumber) Hogville. Honestly, these people are just a step away from the tin-foil-hat-black-helicopters-and-Art-Bell brigade.

Since when does black "go with" Baylor in a way that it doesn't go with a million other teams? Baylor's colors are green and gold.

As for Nebraska...well, that makes slightly more sense. But we should probably point out that for as stupid as the people at (dumber) Hogville think Houston Nutt is, attributing coded messages to him seems, well, a little far-fetched, to understate it.

Jesus. All of you are idiots. Have the balls to actually say "balls" in the first place. Second of all, if you "darksiders" actually think you are helping the program, you are living in another dimension. It's fine to want Nutt gone, I do, but you folks are just hurting any chance we have of landing a decent coach. Who would want to come here? After the way we've treated a coach that has 8 wins, and 10 last season, why would any sane person want to coach here?

And go ahead and smite me. I know the haters will. The saddest thing of all is that I'm on their side, yet they will still smite me because I think the way they're going about this is wrong.

Your logic is poor and here is why.

When Pelphrey was hired to replace Stan, this board was essentially split in its optimism toward him. He came in and immediately won the majority of support from Hogville because of the integrity and vision he exuded. The jury is still out on his "X's and O's," especially after the Providence loss. The Hogville nation, however, remains in John's corner and will be there strongly for 2-3 years while he shows us what he can do. I can assure you though that if Pelphrey begins to slip up morally or ethically, the wrath of Hogville will descend upon him. The same will hold true for the next football coach.

Smarter Hogville analysis: We will pay any price, bear any burden to ensure the moral and ethical superiority of any coach who dares to head a University of Arkansas sports team. No slips.

What we were thankful for

Thanksgiving is in the rear-view mirror, but it's never too late to say it: We're thankful for the hours of entertainment that (dumber) Hogville provides. And on Friday, we got a little bonus: Not only did the Hogs knock off the #1 team in the country, and the closest thing we have to an arch-rival in the SEC...but we also got to see the hopes and dreams of the (dumber) Hogvillains dashed by a "signature" win. If McFadden wins the Heisman because of that monster game, then there might just be enough positives, together with the self-destruction of Hogville, to overcome it, if Nutt gets that raise and extension we suspect he's planning to ask for.

Not so random observations

(Dumber) Hogville is abuzz over the swirling rumors regarding Houston Nutt's impending firing/resignation/departure for ________________ (fill in the blank). More than a few people are claiming credit for this "victory," but while we wait anxiously for real confirmation that Nutt is headed out after Black Friday to pursue greener (and golder) pastures, we aren't ready to give credit to anybody.

We're reminded of an old story we heard about a severe, months-long drought. Every Sunday, this preacher would pray as hard as he could for rain, and really make a spectacle of himself. Every week, no rain. This happened seven, eight weeks in a row. Finally, on the ninth Sunday, he prayed again, and the skies opened up, and rain fell for three days straight. "See," the preacher said, "our prayers worked."

Of course, the folks at (dumber) Hogville--and, to be fair, a couple of other sites--have been doing plenty of praying, but not just praying, either. They've been getting acquainted with the Freedom of Information Act, the Washington County Courthouse, and the procedures and pricing for one of those plane-based advertising banners. And all this wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin', and doin', has got them convinced that they had something to do with it.

But they didn't. At least, not in the way they think.

We're convinced that Houston Nutt is out because the Hogs sit at 7-4 despite the presence of two of the finest Razorbacks ever to put on the uniform. Time and money and good wishes and friendship and loyalty cure a lot of ills, but disappointment isn't one of them. Here's why:

1) It's safe to assume that the "PTB" (to use a Hogville term) would be scrambling to keep Houston if we were 11-0 or 10-1. Assuming that the meltdown in Tennessee might not happen if we're playing for anything, we're in every game and can be undefeated. Assuming that we would have sucked it up no matter what against Tennessee, then we could be 10-1.

2) If 1) is true, then the Naters (get it? the Nutt Haters) could have spouted all their crap, FOI'd all the records, flown all the banners and beaten Danny Nutt with a 2x4 until his ears bled, and it wouldn't have made a damned bit of difference.

3) Conversely, if 1) is true, then the only way that Houston could be forced out this year was for the team to perform poorly on the field.

4) So, if our poor performance on the field resulted in Houston's ouster, then the Naters are possibly responsible for our crappy season, whether it's because the coaches were trying to delete their texts and e-mails, or worried about what their kids would think about the banners, or had to spend time talking to a player about how they shouldn't listen to all this crap, or whatever.

5) Or, the crappy season was going to occur anyway, with or without the Naters, and Houston would be gone, in which case the Naters didn't have a damned thing to do with it.

So, to recapitulate, they either (a) caused a crappy season or (b) had nothing to do with Nutt leaving.

Are we reaching here?

Of course not.

Fever Pitch

http://www.hogville.net/yabbse/index.php?topic=174030.0

The linked thread contains so much (dumber) Hogville it would take too long to reproduce it here. If you want to read it all, have at it. But we read it all so we could summarize it for you. It is a true Hogville classic, in that it bears a structural relationship to bad pornography. And by "bad pornography," we don't mean pornography that has acts in it that most people would find disgusting. We mean pornography that just doesn't quite...get there.

The thread begins, innocuously, with the announcement that the UA would be holding a press conference to discuss "important changes" in UA athletics. Fine, fair enough. Let's also note that the original post stated the actual reason for the press conference: the men's and women's athletics departments will be merging.

Two impossibly hot women, students, are sitting in a nicely furnished living room, discussing how hard they've been studying and how they just need a break from all the work. Some relaxation would be nice. The doorbell rings. "Pizza Delivery!"

Then a poster wonders why they would have a press conference...why not just a press release?

"But we didn't order any pizza," the women say.

Another poster points out that this would be a good time to announce Nutt's departure. But soon others seek to tamp down the speculation by pointing out, variously, that Arkansas is one of only a hundful of schools with split departments, that women's athletics sometimes gets short shrift because of the difference, and that the move will likely save money.

"But this is the address they said to go to," says the impossibly hot pizza delivery man. "Deliver two large pepperoni pizzas to this address."

"What are we going to do with two hot pies?" asks the first woman.

Then the speculation begins in earnest. Does this put Bev Lewis in charge briefly? Maybe she'll be the one to fire Nutt, and nobody important has to take the heat! Yeah, this "presser" is a coverup for firing Nutt! Or maybe the goal is to put Jeff Long in charge of everything now, to circumvent Broyles' retirement, then Long can fire Nutt sooner rather than later! Or maybe they're trying to save money so they can pay Butch Davis $3.7 million to come here!

You can just feel the fever building.

"Well, we're not paying for pizzas we didn't order," says the second woman.

"That's okay," says the impossibly hot delivery guy. "Whoever ordered paid, um, with a credit card."

"In that case, want to join us for some of these two hot pies?" asks the first woman, taking off her short shorts.

Finally, 11 o'clock arrives, and the announcement proves to be what they said it would be all along: the athletics departments will be merging. No Nutt firing or resignation.

All three are naked, but just as they begin to have sex, the screen cuts to a mood-killing replay of Roseanne Barr grabbing her crotch and screeching the National Anthem at Jack Murphy Stadium in 1990.

HAND OF GOD
Knoxville, Tenn. Nov. 14, 1998

Tennessee's reign at No. 1 looked as if it wouldn't last one game. No. 10, unbeaten Arkansas led, 24-22, and had the ball with less than 2:00 to go. But then guard Brandon Burlsworth stepped on quarterback Clint Stoerner's foot, causing Stoerner to stumble and -- ouch -- fumble. The Volunteers recovered at the Arkansas 43, and Tennessee scored the winning touchdown with :28 left. After that, how could Tennessee not finish No. 1?

...and since that day Houston Nutt has been afraid of QB's losing games. This is where it all began.

For those that even *think* that I've padded any numbers, you're dead wrong. As a webhost, I have an ethical obligation to ensure that the log files are 100% unaltered. Web logs are absolutely 100% admissable from a legal standpoint.

Hogville's traffic numbers stand on its own merit.

Smarter Hogville analysis: We are Hogville, reaching 95,000 unique people per month, double-counting the people who log on from both home and work, and we have an ethical obligation to report this number accurately; trust us, even though you have no way of verifying the numbers unless you sue us and subpoena our web logs, which are at least 100% admissible, and delicious to eat as well.

We are darn glad that Douglas considers himself, as a webhost, to have an ethical OBLIGATION to ensure that the log files are 100% unaltered. Because, you know, it takes years of schooling and a licensing exam to become a webhost, and if you don't follow the ethical obligations of the profession, there is a rigorous and rigid procedure for taking away your web hosting privileges.

Or is that lawyers? We can never remember which.

Anyway, it is good to know that Douglas has enough energy after one minute two minutes in heaven with Sonia to make sure that the Hogville web logs are accurate. (Two minutes in heaven is better than one minute in heaven.) It is also good to know that Douglas's web logs are 100% admissible, because we would hate for the sloppiness with which Longhorn Lanny treats the English language ("vistors") to spill over into his recordkeeping, lest those records become inadmissible.

Smarter Hogville analysis: What a brave thinker Peyton Hillis is. But the rest of the players need to STFU.

A friend of ours once remarked on how lucky the United States was, that all those foreign dictators who hate us and oppress their people also happen to be both insane and mildly retarded.

We've written on this subject before--it's called the Tubbs Effect, named for the (dumber) Hogville first joyful, then dismayed reaction to a reported statement by Zac Tubbs that he later disavowed--and basically it is the state of mind wherein someone who says something you agree with has instant credibility, and someone who says something that contradicts your beliefs is not credible and needs to STFU.

We get letters (kinda)

One of the pitfalls of being anonymously pseudonymous is that nobody knows where to write to you. But we do have some loyal commenters, who are themselves anonymously pseudonymous, or just anonymous. Unfortunately, the only way we can write back is to do it here.

Anonymous asks: "By the way, why does it always say 'we' when you post?"

Smarter Hogville responds: We suppose you've never heard of the "royal We," as in Queen Victoria saying, perhaps apocraphyally, "We are not amused" and referring only to herself. But in our case, we use "we" because we are plural. More specifically, this blog is the result of a collaboration.

Anonymous complains: "'Just deserts' - a new saying coined by legal experts at 'Smarter' Hogville. Nevermind the 'Just desserts' saying, we like deserts better..."

Smarter Hogville responds: It really wasn't necessary to give us eight selected definitions of "desert" to get the point across. It was also gratuitous to say "'Smarter' Hogville you (plural) are certainly not." But, as it turns out, we were right, as usual, and in a moment, we will prove why we are, in fact, Smarter Hogville. But first we have to wonder what on earth might have given the commenter the impression that we were "legal experts."

The term "just deserts" may be a bit trite, but it doesn't have much to do with an arid, barren place or anything to do with a sweet treat. To quote the American Heritage Dictionary:

When Shakespeare says in Sonnet 72, "Unless you would devise some virtuous lie,/To do more for me than mine own desert," he is using the word desert in the sense of "worthiness; deserving," a word perhaps most familiar to us in the plural, meaning "something that is deserved," as in the phrase just deserts. This word goes back to the Latin word dēservīre, "to devote oneself to the service of," which in Vulgar Latin came to mean "to merit by service." Dēservīre is made up of dē-, meaning "thoroughly," and servīre, "to serve." Knowing this, we can distinguish this desert from desert, "a wasteland," and desert, "to abandon," both of which go back to Latin dēserere, "to forsake, leave uninhabited," which is made up of dē-, expressing the notion of undoing, and the verb serere, "to link together." We can also distinguish all three deserts from dessert, "a sweet course at the end of a meal," which is from the French word desservir, "to clear the table." Desservir is made up of des-, expressing the notion of reversal, and servir (from Latin servīre), "to serve," hence, "to unserve" or "to clear the table."

So, we hope this clears up for our anonymous commenter any confusion over what was meant. And all this talk of dessert has made us hungry for some ice cream.

Just deserts

To follow up on the BANNER post a couple of entries down, in which Hogville Hero masonselby asks, "what is this [the banner] going to accomplish?"

The banner complained that the 6-3 record should have been 9-0. Each loss was a winnable game, in which the Hogs led late, and the implication is that Nutt is responsible for our failure to close those wins out.

It occurred to us that the banner did accomplish something. Nutt obliged the banner-flyers with a game no one would say we should have won.

It's Official

All this time, we didn't realize that (dumber) Hogville hadn't taken an official position on whether Nutt should stay or go. But Longhorn Lanny makes it official:

Posted by hSv
As the voice/owner of Hogville.net..........This 26,000+ Membership is asking for Coach Nutt Resignation. Do not continue this train wreck. Make the announcement today, Coach Nutt will not be retained.
Smarter Hogville Analysis:

Dear Mr. Nutt,

Miss Hogville requests the honour of accepting your immediate and unconditional resignation, Sunday, the eleventh of November, in the year of the Lord Two Thousand Seven, at two o'clock in the afternoon, in the Broyles Athletic Center Media Room, Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Répondez s'il vous plaît, by posting at http://www.hogville.net/, if you are able to tear Mrs. Nutt away from sending vicious electronic mail long enough to do so.

Miss Hogville regrets to inform you that your failure to tender your resignation at the appointed time shall obligate her to call upon Mr. Broyles rather strongly to force the issue.

Sincerely,

Lanworth Beavers, Esq.
Social Secretary to Miss Hogville

A few additional questions are raised and thoughts provoked:
  1. "Asking for Coach Nutt resignation." Does the man have something against the letter "s"?
  2. Lanny asks Nutt to announce his resignation, then asks the University to state that he will not be retained. Huh?
  3. 26,000+. We doubt that this is the actual number, but whatever the number is, Lanny purports to speak for all of them, even though there are an awful lot of "Nuggers" (careful, Al Sharpton; it's short for "Nutt Hugger" and we didn't coin it anyway) there, fighting the good fight.
  4. If, by chance, they happen to be aware of it, our senile AD, Nutt, the Posse, and the media have to be laughing at the owner of a message board making an "official" call for a resignation. No wonder the world thinks we are nincompoops--our face is The Official Voice of Hogville, Longhorn Lanny.

In case there was any question, we aren't happy with what happened today. We were left wondering what it takes for this travesty of a coaching staff to get fired. It is infuriating. And, in that context, we understand where the Hogvillains are coming from: When really stupid people are pushed to this level of frustration, the results are predictable.

And comical, as it turns out.

Human parasite

Here at Smarter Hogville, we don't confine our reaches to (dumber) Hogville. We also peruse other boards from time to time. And the latest revoltin' developments involving Mrs. Houston Nutt, e-mail, and the Great Five-Star Springdale Caper caused us to drift over to Woopig.net 2.0 - There Is No Substitute, part-time summer home of Razorgasm, to see what doobies were being sparked up in celebration of a certain order of the Arkansas Supreme Court.

Sure enough, Razorgasm, a/k/a "Rex" Thigpen, had this to say:

Good News
Posted by Razorgasm

About 10:00am this morning the Arkansas Supreme Court entered an Order Staying the Order of Contempt.

The Order of Contempt issued by Judge Lindsay required Christian to return all of the emails obtained from Darby's work computer to the Department of Finance & Administration. The Order imposed a deadline of today, by which the emails had to be returned. As a result of the stay, Christian does not have to comply with Judge Lindsay's Order.

In addition the Order of Contempt also prohibited Christian, or any other attorney representing Mr. Terry from commenting upon, publishing, or otherwise disseminating the content of any of the Darby emails. The stay entered by the Supreme Court lifts this "Gag Order" and removes this prohibition.

The foot is off the neck and here comes the Reckoning.

Now, who can blame him for being happy about that? (Well, we can, because this lawsuit is just one more element in the national embarrassment that a segment of our fan base has become, and is a large part of the reason why, post-Nutt, it will be difficult to attract a coach.)

But the real reason for the happiness? It has nothing to do with legal progress in the case:
Posted by Razorgasm
The court of Public Opinion will decide this.

We happen to think that lawsuits should be about the law, not embarrassing your adversary into submission to your every desire and whim. That is clearly what this lawsuit is about, and it's embarrassing all of us.
